Mood Board

Because we decided to go with a witchcraft/ possesion type theme for our trailer, we looked specifically at images which we thought were creepy enough to use as inspiration for our own.
We really liked the effect that black eyes created and the fact that they exaggerate the connotations of evil, however decided not to go with the idea when we discovered that the effect looked tacky on Photoshop.
We liked the idea of  black hair like the little girl in The Ring had, once again because of the connotations of black, but also because the length of the hair hides parts of her face, leaving it to the imagination, enabling us to create unsettling images in the audiences minds. We had tried this look with a long, black wig that we ordered online, however we felt that it looked cheap and unrealistic on film. I already have black hair which  is why we decided that I would play one of the possessed girls. Rather than having my hair down, we decided to put it back in order to make me look innocent enough to keep the audience guessing at the beginning, rather than just having them think 'she looks the most likely to be evil' straight away. We also felt that tying my hair back would make the shots of me covered in blood seem more horrific because of the fact that I looked even more like an innocent, normal girl who had been covered in gore, making it more unsettling for our audience.
We thought that a pentagram would be an essential for a witchcraft movie, so we used stop-start animation in order for it to appear as if the seance, or one of us, was making it appear out of nowhere which would confuse our audience . This was a long and difficult process for both filming it and editing it, but we are pleased with the final product.
The Omen movie released in 2006 was released on 06/06/06, which is the 'number of the devil'. We liked this as an idea for our own film, which is actually where we got the title '6.1.6' from. We chose this instead of '6.6.6', not only because we felt that it was cliche, but also because when we researched the number of the devil, we found evidence that 616 was mistaken from 666 when it was originally interpreted. We liked the idea of controversy that a film title which proves many peoples beliefs wrong would create, and felt that this controversy would draw more people in to see our film if it were to ever be made. However later we came to the decision that '616' sounded too tacky, so decided to go with a title which suited the plot of the film perfectly - 'The Awakening'.
